#IFTJ Weekend: Welcome to DC!

This past weekend was one for the books! SHC seniors Sydney Clark, Iriel Evans, Alyssa Miles and Kameron Powell took the main stage and presented at the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice conference on Sunday, Nov. 4 in Washington, D.C. The theme for this year's conference was "Discipleship at the Crossroads." Jesuit institutions across the nation gathered (over 2,000 people in attendance) in one space in true #Jesuiteducated fashion. The title of the SHC group's talk was "Our Experience at the Equal Justice Initiative." The inspiration for the presentation developed from the students' visit to the EJI museum and memorial in Montgomery, Alabama last spring.

The conference was a platform to highlight and discuss various social justice issues, such as racial discrimination, immigration, mass incarceration, gun violence and criminal justice reform. The Ignatian Solidarity Network (ISN), the organizer of the event, also provided break-out sessions about various themes and topics during the weekend.

SHC Campus Ministry takes a group of students every year to DC to participate in this awesome experience. If you are interested in attending next year's conference, contact Colleen Lee via email: cflee@shc.edu. We are so proud of our Badgers for their hard work and bravery to share their experiences in front of the masses!

Remember, no matter where we all come from, we are all interconnected in one way or another. Therefore, we have a duty and obligation to be each other's keeper in Christ.
